Brightsource publishes its carbon footprint for 2008

Leading dm print management specialist, Brightsource, has just published its own carbon footprint, disclosing its CO2 emissions for 2008. Calculated using the latest emissions factors published by Defra in April 2008, this rigorous report covers all 3 scopes identified by the WRI/WBCSD Greenhouse Gas Protocol. Scope 1 deals with direct emissions, namely fossil fuel use on-site. Scope 2 measures electricity usage and Scope 3 details other indirect emissions, including: office paper consumption, landfilled office waste, employee business travel and commuting, and hotel stays.

Brightsource is committed to reducing its carbon footprint. Their detailed sustainability and social responsibility policy reflects their commitment to minimising direct resource usage and reducing waste. For example, staff may not take domestic flights and new company cars must not exceed 130g CO2/km. Wherever possible employees are encouraged to use public transport for the purposes of business travel. With offices now in Cheltenham, Edinburgh and London, all staff journeys between offices are now taken by train rather than by air. And facilities for video conferencing have been provided to reduce the need for travel.

The publication of Brightsource’s carbon footprint comes just ahead of the launch of their newly developed footprinting software tool, 'Footmark' - designed specifically to help marketers manage and reduce the environmental impact of their marketing campaigns.
