Brightsource signs up to 10:10 campaign, pledging to cut emissions by 10% by the end of 2010...
Leading dm print management specialist, Brightsource, has joined thousands of businesses and hundreds of thousands of individuals who have signed up to the 10:10 campaign launched at the Tate Modern on 1st September. The aim of 10:10 is to unite every sector of British society behind one simple idea: that by working together we can achieve a 10% cut in the UK's carbon emissions in 2010. Brightsource joins the likes of British Gas, the Women's Institute, Actionaid and Tottenham Hotspur FC who have also made the pledge.
Brightsource has a longstanding commitment to tackling climate change. They have a track record since 2007 of working with major UK charities, including UNICEF and CAFOD, on measuring and reducing their carbon footprints. In the same year they also published a groundbreaking briefing paper, ‘Going Green’ which offered marketers practical steps for reducing the environmental impact of direct marketing print campaigns. As well as establishing an ISO14001 supply chain Brightsource has been an early adopter of Royal Mail Responsible Mail, offering lower prices for mail that meets sustainability criteria. This year Brightsource also appointed a Sustainability Analyst to develop their pioneering carbon footprinting service - footmarkTM - that enables marketers to accurately preview and control emissions on a campaign-by-campaign basis.
The company is also constantly striving to reduce its own CO2 emissions - their detailed sustainability and social responsibility policy reflects their commitment to minimizing direct resource usage and reducing waste. For example, staff may not take domestic flights and new company cars must not exceed 130g CO2/km. With offices now in Cheltenham, Edinburgh and London, all staff journeys between offices are now taken by train rather than by air. And facilities for video conferencing have been provided to reduce the need for travel. The company has published its carbon footprint for 2008 and is confident of cutting this in 2009 - in addition to its new commitment to a further 10% cut in 2010.
Brightsource's MD, Peter Frings, commented: “Every individual and organisation has a responsibility to take urgent action on carbon emissions. We want to make a public commitment to further improvements and we are encouraging our clients and suppliers to do the same.”
